The newest Medtronic pump, the MiniMed 640G System has been in the UK since 2nd Feb 2015. It’s the most up-to-date insulin pump on the market with many unique features not available on other pumps. It uses the new SmartGuard® technology when used in conjunction with sensors (sometimes available as part of the 640G system or may be purchased separately) Some areas of the UK market this pump as a system which include all you require to get started using all the available functions with CGM, however this is not the case in Scotland, only a few dozen have full time sensor funding (as of 2015) in Scotland. This is yet another growing situation of Health Inequality caused by postcode prescribing. We believe everyone should have access to the full system if they are willing to make it work for them.
Our number one priority is the creation of an artificial pancreas – or a “closed-loop system” – which monitors glucose levels 24/7 and automatically delivers exactly the right amount of insulin.

You can’t go wrong with the 640G, it has less button presses and menus to go through to complete tasks than other pumps, making it the most simple pump around, yet it has the most features when used with CGM.
